Shadow Portraits
Are you feeling stuck, plagued by inner turmoil, or noticing that you’re sabotaging your efforts? This may be a sign that not all of you is on board with the actions you’re taking.
I help you reconnect to neglected aspects of yourself so you can create in integrity with your soul.
I do this through asking questions and making a graphic novel style portrait as you share. Across 3 sessions we will complete one full graphic novel page. Below is a session 1 example.
These voices beneath our awareness are very real and can impact our physical health when their presence is denied. When we chronically go against our own best interest, our bodies' unheard signals can manifest as pain, illness, and/or conflicts in relationships.
I have done countless shadow portraits for myself, and despite how difficult it was to look honestly, it has been the key to healing my relationships and experiencing flow in my work.
This work is very intimate. I do my best to keep the space humor-filled and fun, but uncomfortable feelings may surface.
It’s important to remember the intention:
To lay a foundation of safety from which you can create a joyous, meaningful, soul-honoring life.
What to expect
Each session is 1 hr 30 min in my living room in Berkeley
We begin by sipping tea and sharing about life
I draw you while you speak about what you’re struggling with, at times asking questions (30-45 min)
You view the piece and share what’s coming up
I mostly listen and make space for you to arrive at your own conclusions.
I will offer my reflections if desired.
We conclude with this question, “What actions can you take in the coming weeks to better tend your relationship with these unearthed parts?”
Pricing
$150 a session
I accept Venmo and receive payment at the end of each session
You may or may not need three sessions to reestablish creative flow that honors your whole self. But if three times feels right, we will meet once every two weeks.
Why get a shadow portrait?
You’re wrestling with an important life decision
You want to be a friend to yourself but have a hard time being empathetic towards your own experience (seeing a being outside of you, and on a page can make empathy easier)
You have a habit of discounting your own intuition and need a trusted outside source to help you validate it
You keep trying and trying to move forward on something, and feel blocked
You can’t access the feeling of inspiration
Special Notes
No guarantees this drawing will be beautiful or something you’d want to display on your wall. It’s less about the product and more about what the images activate within you.
I can help open the gate but ultimately it’s your job to tend the relationship with yourself to experience embodied harmony.
The most important thing to consider before receiving a shadow portrait:
Don't Do Shadow Work if You Don't Plan
on Actually Making Changes
Please note,
While this offering is heavily inspired by IFS (internal family systems) or “parts work,” I am not a licensed therapist. I am an artist with a lot of personal experience exploring the many aspects of myself and others through art, song, and movement. However, it could be supportive to work with a therapist alongside our three sessions, but not required.
Testimonials

“Jill's Shadow artwork (visual and song) speaks from the bowels of the UnderWorld. It is a unique opportunity to reclaim the darkest and often most powerful forces that make up our humanity into real inclusion with our Light. It is hauntingly beautiful and soul enriching by having us ingest the real medicine we all need - there is no real evolution without Total inclusion.”
